I see you in the soft waves of my hair, that like the sea,

will roll forever,

still uncoiling,

to increase the gulf between my home and me

And in the sun that dances on my skin, and leaves a golden stain

just like a lantern, I will glow!-

until the frozen winter rains come to erase me, til I'm clean,

and you are proud

that I will never know the pain, or hear the sound

of the rattle of the chains, or the whip-

how sharp it cracks!

Scrub the Blackness, like the spirit, from the flesh until it's empty

Glory!

Never going back!

Redemption of Ham. I wrote this poem based on this piece for an assignment.
